![]() ![]() In Aus, the Studio is $250 with the Pro being about $380 (the pro Plus is only a little more than that, so I'm sort of thinking that if I get the Pro, I may as well just get the Pro Plus as there's a fair chance my next monitor would be HDR) My workspace is not optimal in terms of ambient lighting as window light does strike the monitor at various times during the day, or otherwise the room lighting can vary a fair bit (so I'm wondering if this 'continuous ambient' monitoring is actually useful. New to colour management so I know basically nothing about it, and I probably will never get into some of the real nitty gritty. I have 2 monitors, one very old IPS, one newer monitor, I may be upgrading one or both later this year (undecided). Looking online suggests the i1 Display is better than the spyder.I had an old i1 display 2, really didn't like it but happy to give them a shot. Maybe the crippled software on the Munki is to blame? So, I've decided to bite the bullet and buy a monitor calibrator, being unhappy with 'visual' calibrations. Its also confusing that if the goal of both apps, x-rite and display cal, are to calibrate to a 'standard" why they turn out so different? So.in that regards, it would seem to me that I should keep using x-rite so my prints look just like my onscreen edits. My printed photos look very close to my screen image when using the x-rite calibration. But if I compare a print to that image, they are surely not the same. Basically my main concern is that the calibrated Displa圜al profile (I did not apply was just using the preview) showed an image that was much brigher, with more shadow detail than the one x-rite calibration shows. Even explorer shows it right so its a Chrome thing when it comes to that particular issue. Yes Photoshop and others app do not show the horrible banding. It was more of a curiosity as to why it looks so bad with the Displa圜al calibration unlike with the X-rite calibration. You can't expect two different software packages, set to the same target aim points to produce the same color appearance even with the same colorimeter! Shame X-rite doesn't provide an upgrade path so your idea is sound at this point. Maybe check that you are NOT using a version 4 ICC profile preference! The same image in Explorer does not show this.Įxamine at 100% in something like Photoshop or an application you know is color managed. Not the application to be using (is it even color managed?). Somehow the results are odd.is like my calibration ends up brighter with a lot more shadow detail than expected and when viewing flickr images in Chrome it shows severe banding specially in dark areas. PS My prints look a LOT more like my x-rite calibrated image on screen than when using the displaycal BUT I am not sure if my printer bases the printing on the ICC profile I see that listed on the Canon printing plug in. I am about to order the i1Display Pro instead to use the x-rite software unless someone tells me that I am doing something wrong. I have my Nvidia control panel set to Use Nvida color settings, 12bpc under color depth, RGB and Full dynamic range. So it was giving me the green signa, that all was perfect. What I did was use the Gains settings of my tv to make all 3 colors meet the arrow as blue was higher. It is odd that this happens or is a LOT more noticeable when using the Displa圜al calibration. The same image in Explorer does not show this. Tried using the 2.2 gamma default and made wssure it was set to 1D. So I have been playing with ColorMunky display and Displa圜al. The hardware (i1Display/CM display) is the same, the lesser expensive offering has crippled software and runs slower (no big deal), otherwise, identical hardware. If I were to use Displa圜al.then does it really make a difference to upgrade from Munki display to i1Display pro? Now, I normally would just use the software that comes with the unit but a lot of people claim that Displa圜al is better. After reading about both, looks like the X-Rite is the sure winner. I own the ColorMunki Display and was going to upgrade to either the Spyder5Elite+ or the i1Display Pro. ![]()
